We are so deeply saddened by this tragic loss. Our son was honored to be a Diamond Nation teammate of Kevin's, and said that the way he carried himself on and off the field made the team better ballplayers and people. We were fortunate to watch Kevin play in many tournaments, experience his successes, his sheer joy in playing the game, and the never-ending support his family gave him while he lived his dream. We will miss him so and always remain Kevin Gilbert fans. - Leslie, Rob and Darren

My heart breaks with yours, and my prayer is that you would be lifted up into God's arms and comforted by His love and knowing that God loves Kevin even more than what is humanly possible. Kevin is now in those arms of love. Each day is a gift and a new opportunity to hope. I pray that God will give you that peace that surpasses all understanding. It's amazing how one life's ripple can carry through a community and a world and impact so many-and that's what Kevin's life has done. Lord please bless the Gilbert family-give them the answers they seek, the peace they need, and let them feel your abundant love.

Like kevin and most of us at the service today, baseball had brought me to him. this whole time i thought i was teaching him how to become a better player, turns out he tought me more than i could ever teach him. In this last week he has open my eyes to see things as i should see them not worry about the dumb things i have been worried about. Kevin has changed my life and i will tell my own boys about what kevin has done for me and hope they can become a person like kevin and appreciate the joy that kevin has brought to their father. i train players to pay attention to detail and at the same time Kevin has opened my eyes to the details and feel refreshed and know that Kevin has motivated me as well. In my mind Kevin will always be my brother and friend. I will cherish all the times i spent with him and all the great conversation we shared. To the Gilbert Family, you have all our love and prayers to help you through your days to come. God Bless

My mom told me something very insightful the other day - that everyone was put on this earth for a reason and that they were destined to do something the minute they are born. Kevin, everyone always knew that you were a special person, but it was truly proven to me when I realized that god put you here so that you could change the lives of four thousand people because he knew that you were the kind of beautiful person who could do just that. When I remember you, the thing that comes to me most is the word love. I hope you are smiling and happy now because you have taught everyone you knew how to love.

I wish I would have known your son, but I did not. I am profoundly sorry for your loss. My son lost one of his best friends the summer after graduation from HCRHS. These words seem to have comforted him...I'd like to share them with you.
Please don’t forget me because I can still be found,
Every day you’ll notice me by a different sound.
In the Summer when you feel the warm air,
It will just be me whispering in your ear.
In the Fall when you hear the leaves crunching on the ground,
It will be me talking to you through the different sounds.
In the Winter, look up to see the snow flakes falling from the sky,
It will be me riding them so I can look you in your eyes.
In the Spring when you hear the falling of the rain,
It will be me talking to you to try to ease your pain.
Though it doesn’t seem fair that I lived only eighteen years,
I had only begun to life’s spiral stairs.
To those I left behind,
In my memory have the courage to follow your dreams,
The strength and spirit to make them a reality.

On behalf of North Hunterdon High School Administration, Staff and Student body we are sorry to hear of the passing of Kevin Gilbert. Many of our baseball players knew Kevin very well and were devastated to hear of the tragic event.
When I watched Kevin patrol center field for Hunterdon Central the past couple of years he seemed to really enjoy playing baseball. He was always a clutch player and seemed to motivate his teammates during our rivalries. One thing that set him aside from other players was the fact that he always had confidence in his abilities. He always had a smile because he had no fears and enjoyed the comradeship of competition.
In honor of Kevin, I will have the North Hunterdon HS baseball team will wear green and red wristbands with the #12 on them to honor him throughout the season.
Kevin is now patrolling center field for the Angels in the heavens above. Kevin Gilbert will surely be missed at our sporting events but never forgotten.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Gilbert family.
Respectfully,
John Deutsch

I haven't spoken with Kevin recently, but I was friends with him a couple of years ago. He was always a very nice boy. He was in my gym class freshman year and I thought he was very cute. He was kind to me even when our volleyball team lost and it was my fault.
