Obituary of Gregory Bodek
Gregory Bodek, 63, of Whitehouse Station, NJ passed away peacefully at his home on April 1, 2011 after a courageous battle with ALS.
He is survived by his beloved wife of over 40 years, Claire (Kita) Bodek; his daughters Lauren Felo of Basking Ridge, NJ and Cheryl Bodek of Arlington, VA; his sons-in-law John Felo and James Bosworth; his granddaughter and sunshine of his final year, Caitlin Anne Felo; and his two sisters Norma Hodges of Melbourne, Florida, and Rosemary Kern of Basking Ridge, NJ.
Greg was born December 27, 1947 in Wilkes-Barre, PA. His parents, Edmund Bodek and Sophie (Bielawa) Bodek, passed away several years ago.
Greg proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1968-71 including a tour in Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion Post 12 in Somerville, and of the VFW post 2290 in Manville.
In 1970, while still in the military, he married his beloved wife Claire. They have resided in Whitehouse Station since 1978.
He was a member of Steamfitters Local 475 since 1972 and retired in 2005. For the past 34 years, Greg was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes in Whitehouse Station and was usher for the early Mass on Sunday for the past 25 years. He was also a member of the Polish American Citizens Club in Whitehouse Station.
He was a lifelong fan of the Jets and Mets. An avid landscaper, he was also a skilled craftsman who built furniture and toys for his family and friends. Greg owned and maintained a 1969 Charger in which he drove both his daughters home from the hospital and years later to their weddings.
Services: Funeral liturgy on Wednesday, April 6, 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Whitehouse Station. Visitation Tuesday, April 5,
2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse. Entombment in St. Bernard's Mausoleum.
