Obituary of Edward McGeary

Mr. Edward J. McGeary, 84, of Annandale, NJ, passed away Tuesday August 23, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 14, 1927 in Rockaway Beach, NY, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Francis McGeary. Edward grew up in a family of six. He served in the Navy during WWII. On September 20, 1947 he married his wife, Mary Elizabeth Carter. Together they raised 8 children. Along with their children they also cared for numerous foster children. Edward enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, fishing and taking pictures. Often Mary and he would take trips together. Edward also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also a woodworker who usually could be found in his shop. Edward was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Annandale. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth, his brother, Francis McGeary and his three sisters, Josephine McGeary, Caroline McGeary, and Mary McGeary. He is survived by his children, Edward McGeary and his wife, Barbara of Fairfield, Conn., Patrick and Sylvia McGeary of Chatham, NJ, Peter and Kathy McGeary of Malverne, NY, Marybeth McGeary of Brooklyn, NY, Carolyn and James Dowling of Woodmere, NY, Timothy and Ann McGeary of Staten Island, NY, Michael and Janet McGeary of Phillipsburg, NJ, and Christopher and Kim McGeary of Lebanon, NJ. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 8 great- grandchildren and his brother, Vincent McGeary of Hopatcong, NJ. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Annandale. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse.
