Obituary of Charles N Neumann

Charles "Chuck" Neier Neumann, 87, of Branchburg, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 13, 2011. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 21, 1924, to Harry Clive and Bernice Neier Neumann. Upon graduation from North Plainfield High School in 1942 Charles enlisted in the Army Air Corps. A highly decorated veteran, serving his country as a navigator with the Eighth Air Force during World War II, he flew 35 combat missions and retired with the rank of Major along with his deceased brother Major Myrdon Neumann. Among Charles Neumann's decorations are the Air Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters, the European Theater medal with four Bronze Battle Stars for the Battle of the Bulge, the Battle for the Rhineland, the Battle for Central Germany, and the Air Offensive over Europe, the National Service Defense Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation. He was a Life Member of the Reserve Officers Association, and was awarded the Sons of the American Revolution War Service Medal. After completing his service to our country, Charles graduated from Colgate University. He worked for Union Carbide in Chicago, Illinois and then returned to New Jersey where he worked for eleven years at the Westinghouse Electric Corporation. His love for teaching then took him on a 22-year journey where he taught mathematics at the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional High School and retired in 1984. While teaching, Charles received his Master's Degree from Rutgers University. Charles was predeceased by his first wife Shirley Ann Carberry and granddaughter Amy and is survived by his wife Carolyn Seiler Neumann. He is also survived by his children Dr. Jennifer Neumann, Vicki Lynn, and Barbara Neumann Bogenrief, husband Bruce, grandchildren, Sarah, Brian, and Scott and great grandchildren, Braden, Gavin, and Charlie.
