Obituary of W. Burton Salisbury

W.B. Salisbury, Jr. Obituary: W. Burton Salisbury, Jr., age 80 of Stanton, N.J. and Southport, Me, died Thursday, December 1, 2011 at his home in Stanton. Born in New Brunswick, N.J., he was the son of the late W. Burton, Sr. and Lillian Salisbury. Known to all as Bud, he and his young family lived in Metuchen and Bound Brook before moving to Stanton 40 years ago. He was a member of the of the US Air force, serving in Europe during the Korean War in the Finance Division. Bud was an Insurance Agent Principal, his agency; O'Connell & Salisbury, was located in New Brunswick. He retired in 1988. He was a member of the Second Reformed Church of New Brunswick. Bud served for over 25 years on the board of directors of the former Peoples National Bank of Central New Jersey and its successor. He was a longtime member of New Brunswick's Kiwanis and Union Clubs, serving each as president for multiple terms, as well as an active member of the New Brunswick Chamber of Commerce and several insurance industry organizations. He was also a member of the NJ Society of the S.A.R. and on the board of the South Branch Watershed Association in Hunterdon County for 11 years, seven as their treasurer. Bud was a graduate of Tabor Academy, Marion, Mass., and Rutgers University where he was a member of the Glee Club, the University Choir and Chi Phi fraternity. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judith (Rapalje) Salisbury and their sons, W. Burton Salisbury, III of North Brunswick and Stephen deWitt Salisbury of Bangor, Me. He is also survived by his 7 grandchildren, his sister, Mary Salisbury Boylan of Wilmington, N.C. and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 14th at the Stanton Reformed Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hunterdon Humane Animal Shelter, Inc. or the Hunterdon Medical Center, Flemington, N.J.
