Obituary of Benjamin H. Bakerjian

Benjamin H. Bakerjian, age 91, of Oxford, NJ, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. Born in Manhattan, he was the son of the late Harry and Lydia Bakerjian. Ben grew up in Brooklyn and moved to Massachusetts after the death of his father in 1936. He had previously lived in Berkley Heights before moving to Oxford, NJ in 1998. Ben received his Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served our Country during WWII on the USS Tucson in the Pacific. After being honorably discharged he went back to school and received his Masters Degree from North Eastern University. Always wanting to continue to learn, Ben also attended Columbia University and Colorado State University. While working for the Arthur D. Little Company in Cambridge, MA, he designed the fuel loading system for the Titan Missile. Ben was then transferred to Wyoming, where he was project manager for the missile silos used to defend the United States during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired as Vice President of the Gas Division at PSE&G in Newark, NJ. Ben was a Licensed Professional Engineer in MA, NY, NJ, and PA. He attended the Whitehouse United Methodist Church for many years and was a member of the Freemasons in Needham, MA. In his youth, he used to make model airplanes and won many trophies for this. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ben was happiest spending time with his wife of 57 years, Grace. They would often go to Applebee’s and Panera’s in Hackettstown. In addition to his beloved wife, Grace, he is survived by his loving daughter, Karen and her husband, Gene Wimberly of Oxford, NJ and his two granddogs, Sophie and Bubba. A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 17, 2016 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse. A military service will be held on Monday, April 18 at 10:30 AM at the funeral home, followed by an 11:00 AM service at the Whitehouse United Methodist Church.
