Obituary of Edward Joseph Zorsky

EDWARD J. ZORSKY, SR. WWII Army/Air force Veteran, retired Electrical Union Member and 66 year Readington Township Resident. Edward Joseph Zorsky, Sr. died peacefully on August 18, 2016 at the Hunterdon Care Center, Flemington, NJ. He was 96 years old. Edward was the son of Joseph and Magdalena (Machukass) Zorskie who emigrated from Lithuania through Ellis Island in 1905. He was born in Shenandoah, PA and worked with his father briefly in the coal mines. Edward moved to Newark, NJ when he was 16 and began a 40 year career as an IBEW 164 electrician with Beech Electric Company, mostly contracted to Bamberger’s. He also worked installing runway lights at the original Newark Airport and electrical service at several Newark Breweries. As a Staff Sgt, serving in the European Campaign in Northern England with the 339th Bomber Squadron, “Easy” supervised ground-to-air communication personnel in guiding pilots flying bombing raids over Western Europe. He was discharged honorably in 1945 with several decorations and citations for his service. After the war, Edward married the love of his life, Antoinette D. Chervenyak and moved to Whitehouse Station in 1952, where they had four children and settled together for more than 60 years until she died in 2007. Edward was a man of many talents, in addition to building his own home, built Shaker-like pine furniture and wooden toys for craft fairs. He enjoyed working around his house in the gardens, fishing in the Florida Keys, hunting with his sons, John Wayne movies and reading Western Louie L’Amour novels. His greatest joy was his family, sharing food and stories with them on the back porch. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Whitehouse Station, since he moved to this area. Edward’s wife, Antoinette, his two sons, John Andrew and Edward J., Jr., granddaughter, Samantha, brother, Joseph and sisters, Violet Zorskie and Anne Noll predeceased him. He is survived by his two daughters, Maria Dolores of Lynn, MA and Margaret Claire of Whitehouse Station, a sister, Dorothy Fialcowitz of Toms River, a brother, Clement Zorsky of Whiting and grandchildren, Patrick John of Chandler, Arizona, Ryan and his fiancé, Emma Wyckoff, of Mt. Bethel, PA and Rachael Ann of Oxford, NJ. Edward had one great granddaughter, Amelia, who brought much joy to his life this last year. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, August 22, 2016 at 9:30AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Whitehouse Station. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse, NJ 08888 Inurnment will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Bridgewater at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Edward’s name to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, PO Box 248, Whitehouse Station, NJ 08889.
