Obituary of Stanley Godlesky
Stanley Godlesky, age 89 of Branchburg, NJ, died Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset.
Born in Paterson, NJ, he was the son of the late Stanley and Kathryn Godlesky. He was a resident of Dunellen and Somerville before moving to Branchburg over 50 years ago.
Stan was proud to have served his country in the Coast Guard during WWII. After leaving the service he entered Rutgers University in pursuit of a Mechanical Engineering degree. Stan loved a good challenge and when the opportunity to take the test for the NJ State Police arose, he changed course and had 31 successful years as a NJ State Trooper. He retired in 1981 as a Lieutenant. He moved on from the State Police to become Second Undersheriff in Somerset County and then worked as a private detective and investigator of insurance fraud for the State of NJ. He also worked at the county level with the election board.
Stan was a long time member of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Bradley Gardens where he was member of the Holy Name Society. He also belonged to the Elks Club in Somerville the Polish American Club in Whitehouse Station, the Branchburg Senior Citizens Group, and was a 3rd Degree Knight with Council 6930 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Whitehouse Station and the belonged to the 4th Degree Somerville Assembly .
Stan believed you never stopped learning. He loved puzzles and taking on any type of challenge. Regularly donning a funny hat or costume, he was known for his fun personality and dry wit. He was extremely loyal and dedicated and was thoroughly committed to his family and friends, or the task at hand. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.
He was predeceased by his brother, Casmir Eugene in summer of 2016.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Mildred, his two daughters, Anastasia Zinkerman of Fairfield, CT and Katherine Godlesky of Phillipsburg and his four grandchildren, Joseph and Daniel Illes and Jacob and Maya Zinkerman.
