Obituary of James Shamey

James Shamey of Lebanon, N.J., died peacefully at home on Thursday, April 6, 2017. He was 91. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Joseph and the late Selma (Kassouf) Shamey. Jim spent many years in Cranford, N.J., before moving to Whitehouse Station. He had lived in Lebanon for the last 15 years. Jim was an aviation cadet in the United States Navy, serving from 1944 to 1946. He was a longshoreman and was a member of the International Longshoremen's Association for 42 years. Jim was predeceased by a brother, Albert, and a sister, Lila Murad. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Claire (Cox) Shamey, and their five children: Caryn Shamey of Sugar Hill, N.H.; Joanne Shamey of Newport, Ore.; Joseph Shamey and his wife, Linda of Seal Rock, Ore.; Gerard Shamey and his wife, Jane of Basking Ridge, N.J.; and Lauren Katz and her husband, Jerome Katz of Boonton Township, N.J. Jim is also survived by his three grandchildren: Zachary Johnk, Rachel Shamey and Samuel Johnk. Friends and relatives may visit with the family on Sunday, April 9, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 10, at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 390 County Road 523, Whitehouse Station.
