Obituary of Frederick Longstreet Herder
Frederick Longstreet Herder, age 96 of Whitehouse Station, NJ, died Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the Little Brook Nursing Home in Lebanon Twp., NJ.
Born in Whitehouse Station, NJ, he was the son of the late George S. and Louella Herder. He was a lifelong resident of Whitehouse Station.
He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Oldwick and a graduate of Flemington High School Class of 1938. Mr. Herder managed the Herder Farm till 1972. He also worked for Fleetwood Kitchens in Raritan for 30 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Readington Township Senior Citizens Club, the Stanton Grange and the Masonic Lodge in High Bridge. His hobbies included gardening, woodwork and travel.
Fred was predeceased by his wife, Lillian Melick Herder who died November 2, 2016, his two brothers, George S. Herder and C. Russell Herder and his sister, Helen Alles.
He is survived by his two sons, Frederick L. Herder, Jr. and his wife, Linda of Whitehouse Station and Robert D. Herder of Califon, and his daughter, Karen J. Dumont and her husband, Gerry of Lebanon. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Brandi, Vicki, Melissa, Thomas, Leah, Eric, and Laura and his five great grandchildren, Shelby, Dillon, Kaitlyn, Brianna, and Madisyn.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 24, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse. Friends may visit with the family prior to the service from 9:00 to 10:00 AM.
Burial will be in Rural Hill Cemetery, Whitehouse.
