Obituary of John J. Collins
John J. Collins Jr., age 68, of Newburyport, MA, died Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at his brother’s home in Tewksbury Township, NJ.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late John and Gertrude Collins, Sr. He lived in New Jersey before moving to Newburyport in 1970.
John was an antique dealer whose expertise was in antique oriental rugs. He owned his own gallery and was an international traveler and trader in old Persian carpets. John also published a book in March of 2017 called, “The Fall of Declan Curtis” under the pseudonym, John Jeremiah.
John was predeceased by his brother, Patrick Collins.
He is survived by his son, John J. Collins III of Cambridge, MA and his daughter, Rachel Collins of Brooklyn. He is also survived by his brothers, Kevin and his wife, Tracy of Tewksbury Twp., Daniel and his wife, Deb and Michael and his wife, Cookie of Newburyport, MA, and his sister, Maureen Mayer of Atlanta, GA and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of the life of John J. Collins Jr. will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the Grog, 13 Middle Street, Newburyport, MA 01950.
