Obituary of Lucille M Sullivan
In the early hours of Saturday morning September 16, 2017, Lucille M. Sullivan, 89, passed away surrounded by her loving and devoted family. Lucille, a homemaker, registered nurse, clinical nurse specialist, and volunteer lived a long and happy life full of faith, family, and friends.
Lucille was born on January 21, 1928 in Rochester, New York to parents Matilda Heintz Haubner and Edward Haubner. From her parent's loving example, she chose to pursue a career of service to others and completed her bachelors degree in nursing at Nazareth College in 1950. She worked as a head nurse and nursing instructor at Mercy Hospital in Rochester, NY before starting the next chapter of her life.
On June 18, 1955, she married Dr. Richard A. Sullivan and for the next 57 years was his devoted partner. Together they raised five children and moved their family from Rochester, NY to Riverdale, NY, South Orange, NJ, Chestnut Hill, PA, and ultimately to Alexandria Township, NJ. Lucille was steadfast in her devotion to her husband and his career in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
In the early 1980's, she resumed her nursing career and received her masters as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Inaugural graduating class at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey. She worked as a clinical instructor at the university and had a strong interest in community health and geriatrics.
She is pre-deceased by her loving husband Richard, and two sisters Clementine Zimmer and Jacqueline Shone. Her greatest passion was for her children and their growing families. She was the very proud mother of Richard Jr. (Judy); Brian (Cathy); Katherine Dowdle (James); Suzanne Quick (Joseph); and Philip (Patricia). She was blessed with loving grandchildren including Matthew, Daniel (Sarah); Meghan (Sami). Patrick, Emily, Lisa, Caroline (Kevin), Timothy, Katherine, Sean, Joseph & Amelia and great-grandchildren Daniel, Christopher, Arabella, Jack and Lily.
Her love for life and family was a gift to be cherished. She will be forever remembered and so dearly missed.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday September 20th, 2017 at Kearns Funeral Home in Whitehouse, NJ from 2-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on September 21st, 2017 at 10am at the St. Catherine of Siena Parish Center at 142 Perryville Rd. Hampton, NJ 08827. Interment immediately to follow at the Mausoleum of Immaculate Conception Church in Annandale, NJ.
