Obituary of John J. Kennedy
John J. Kennedy “Jack”, age 93 of Oldwick, NJ died Friday, April 27, 2018 at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, NJ.
Born in Linden, NJ, he was the son of the late John and Mary Kennedy. Jack had lived in Clark before moving to Oldwick 50 years ago.
Jack was a WW II Navy veteran, who served on the USS Chickadee minesweeper, which took part in the D-Day landings in Normandy. After the war, he worked as a Pipefitter for DuPont for over 40 years.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Whitehouse Station; Jack was fond of reading the bible each morning during his retirement.
Jack took great pride and enjoyed building items of his own design, using wood, metal, and reclaimed objects. He also loved the outdoors and spent many hours in his garden. Jack was an avid bowler. He delighted in spending time watching his great-grandchildren grow up, laughing and playing games with them. Jack was passionate about numbers and calculations, which extended to the stock-market, talking about calculating the rule of 72 and playing Sudoku.
Jack was predeceased by his beloved wife, Kitty in 2009.
He is survived by his son, John S. Kennedy and his wife, Laura of West Virginia, his daughter, Suzette Kennedy of Branchburg, his three grandchildren, John Van, Jessica Ergener and her husband, Metin and Valerie O’Connor and her husband, Shane. He is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse, NJ 08888.
A funeral liturgy will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Whitehouse, Station.
Burial will be in St Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
