Obituary of Thomas Reynolds Smart

Thomas Reynolds Smart, Jr., age 89 of Hackettstown, NJ, died Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Hackettstown Medical Center.

Born in Troy, AL, he was the son of the late Thomas and Ethel Smart. A resident of Oldwick for 30 years, Thomas and his wife, Anne moved to Heath Village in Hackettstown 3 years ago.

Thomas was a proud veteran of the United States Army.  He was a 2nd Lieutenant before he was honorably discharged in 1952.  Throughout his career he worked as a chemist for Shell Oil.

Thomas and his wife enjoyed spending time with friends and had a wonderful social life.  They loved attending steeplechase races, balloon festivals and traveling abroad.  Over the years they were fortunate to take ski trips all throughout Europe.

Thomas was predeceased by his son, Thomas Smart III in 2013.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Anne, his two step-sons, William Bonorden and his wife, Linda  of Brewster, NY, and Martin Bonorden of Custer, SD and by his daughter-in-law, Gail Smart of Denver, CO and step-daughter-in-law, Meg Schwartz of Custer, SD.

Interment will take place at a later date in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Kearns Funeral Home in Whitehouse.
