Obituary of Robert C. Scanlon

Robert C. Scanlon, age 76, of Flemington, died Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Center for Hope in Scotch Plains, NJ after a long illness.

Born in Rahway and raised in Westfield, he was the son of the late Robert and Lucy Scanlon.  He graduated from Holy Trinity High School and served in the NJ Army National Guard.

Robert moved to Readington Township where he raised his three children and worked the family business, D&L Contracting, with his parents.  He took pride in his work and was known as a fair businessman that produced quality work.  He also acquired a small plot of land where he began to indulge his love of farming by raising cattle and other animals. Later moving to a larger farm in Kingwood Township, he continued to farm until 2014 when he relocated to Flemington.

Robert is survived by his sons, Jeffrey (Filippa) of Raritan Township, Robert (Carolyn) of Warrenton, VA, daughter, Jeanine Smith (David) of Beverly Hills, MI, brother, Francis (Carol Ann) of Readington and 11 cherished grandchildren.

A funeral liturgy will be held Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church in Bridgewater.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 p.m. at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse.

Burial will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.
