I am saddened to hear about Eion's passing. I had wondered why I didn't get a response to my Christmas message last December. Eion was a good friend and mentor to me and he helped to get me started on my scientific career. I worked with him as a postdoc at Bell Labs in 1967-8 and we kept in contact over the years after I returned to Australia in 1969. Condolences to all of his family. He was a great scientist and a lovely man. Phiiip Jennings Murdoch University Australia.

Dear Graeme, Catherine, Colin, Crystal & families, Very sad to hear of the passing of your beloved Dad, grandfather and great-grandfather. I'm also sorry that I didn't know about it till today. I had noticed I hadn't heard from him (email) in a while. Please accept my deepest sympathy, though belated. I was very privileged to meet him in Western Australia a couple of times, when he visited, and I came to visit him & Jean in late 1982, when I was passing through the US on my way back to Australia. He showed me around Whitehouse Station, and where he used to work at Bell Labs. We had a day trip to NY and we had lunch atop the World Trade Center, also visited the Guggenheim Gallery. I am the son of Mary Strickland who was his first cousin, they live at Dangin, WA. Also played tennis together. I loved his company and his delicious humour and way of expressing things. He is deeply missed.
