Obituary of George J. W. Milligan
George J. W. Milligan, Jr., age 78 of Clinton, NJ, died Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Country Arch Care Center in Union Township.
Born in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, he was the son of the late George J and Margaret(Rush) Milligan.
He was a dedicated teacher who enriched and touched the lives of many students at multiple institutions including: White Township School in Belvidere, New Jersey, St. Hilda and St. Hugh’s in New York City, Rhodes Prep School, New York City, and Anglo- American International School, New York. He spent the majority of his teaching career at St. Joseph’s High School in Metuchen, New Jersey where he taught until his retirement in 2019.
A man of deep faith, George was a beloved member of Clinton Presbyterian Church, where over the years he served in a number of roles, including Deacon, Elder and Sunday School Superintendent. Most recently he added his talents to the Bell Choir.
George was a long-time resident of Clinton and will be greatly missed by many friends who will always remember his kind and gentle ways. In addition to his parents, George is predeceased by his sister, Dora Jean Whitfield and his brother-in-law, John Whitfield. He is survived by his loving family, Jennifer Byers and her husband Laine, nephew, Jeffrey Whitfield and his wife Leigh, and great nephews Skyler Whitfield, Will Byers and Miles Annas.
A Service of Witness to the Resurrection and in Celebration of George’s life will be held on Sunday June 25, 2023 at 11:00am at the Clinton Presbyterian Church, 91 Center Street, Clinton. The service will also be livestreamed here.
If desired, memorial contributions in George’s memory may be made to Clinton Presbyterian Church or Hunterdon Hospice.
