Dear George and Frank,
I just read in the Democrat about your Dad's passing. My condolences to you both.
I'm not sure if you ever heard how our fathers met. Your mom and dad had recently moved into the area and were staying in a trailer along one of my dad's milk routes. Evidently the trailer caught on fire and dad was able to wake up your parents so they got out. It formed a life long relationship for both of them.
My dad always talked about what a great hunter and fisherman your dad was and respected his knowledge of farm life.
I'm sure you will miss him as I do my father. Again, my condolences.

I called my Mom on sunday and was told that George Butt had died. I sat down and thought about how George was a friend to me from the time I was a small child to an adult. I remember him sitting at the kitchen table wearing a ball cap, flannel shirt & a 3 day beard with a deep voice and a warm smile. He showed me kindness as a kid who would question him endlessly about fishing for bass at the Peternells pond or trout in the Black River. George was my personal expert to turn to on all things about Dogs and Hunting. I recently used a quote from George with a teen who works for me whos friend wanted to borrow his dog. When I was about 17 I had my first Bird Dog a lab mix named Kerry. George had answered many training questions about my dog. He said to me "it takes birds to make a bird dog." I asked him if I should lend my dog Kerry to one of my friends to hunt with one weekend when I couldn't. George said "Mike there are four things a man should never lend to anyone: your money, your gun, your dog, or your wife!" George was quick to laugh. There are so many stories & lessons from George Butt I learned sitting at the kitchen table. Its been quite a while since I've moved away from home. The last time I saw him I didn't thank him for being a friend. I wish I had.
