Obituary of George S. Butt Sr.
George S. Butt Sr., age 79 of Whitehouse, NJ, died Saturday, May 20, 2006 at the Country Arch Care Center in Union Twp., NJ.
Born in South Mills, NC, he was the son of the late Joseph and Sarah Butt.
George had lived in Elizabeth, NJ before moving to Whitehouse in 1954.
He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was proud to serve his Country.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 284 in Whitehouse.
George was a caretaker and farmer for several farms in the Whitehouse area. He had worked for Thomas Mullen on the Mullens Crest Farm and for the George Lee family. He was last employed by the High Hopes Farm on Island Road in Whitehouse.
While his sons were growing up George coached little league baseball. He helped build the current concession stand at the little league park in Whitehouse Station.
George was a simple man who enjoyed helping people. He could fix just about anything. He assisted many a neighbor with various projects in and around the home.
George is survived by his two sons, George Butt of Summit, NJ; and Frank Butt of Whitehouse Station; his 5 brothers, Joe, James, Wilbur, Elmer and John; his sister, Ruby and his 4 grandchildren, Jermey, Christina, Shawn and Halay and his 3 great grandchildren, Michelle, Cody and Gabriel.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 from 7-9 P.M. at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse.
Cremation the following day will be private.
