I knew Tom for a short time, but gained a tremendous amount of respect for him during that time. I met Tom on an S-12 project in Summit where we were working together on validating the building computer system for that building. It was a tremendously frustrating process, as anyone involved with CSV would probably attest to. Tom always maintained control and was able to provide direction, at the same time able to have a little fun. It was a learning experience just to see him in action, and I value that greatly. I enjoyed knowing him and working with him. He will be in our prayers. Love, Lorenzo, Florence and Domenico Forlini.

Tom was someone who could always make you smile. No matter how hard he was working or how busy he was, Tom always had a minute to speak with you. No one got past him in the hall without a cheerful greeting and a chuckle. He will be greatly missed by all of us.
I extend my sincere condolences to his family.

As a employee of Skanska, a Construction Management firm, I first met Tom several years ago when our company was constructing a new building for Schering Plough, Summit, NJ.
I was called from another project as a replacement and thrown into the breach to institute and execute a commissioning plan for the new building.
Upon arrival I met Tom at a project meeting and my first impression was he was cerainly a stern and strick diciplinarian. If you did not have the right answer or stumbled he would ever so gently(?) let you know not to do it again.
I thought, oh brother this will be tough going.
Much to my surprise I realized this was the Project Meeting Tom and outside of the Meeting / Job, Tom was a very caring person. Not only about the his Projects but about the people that work for and ultimately supported him. Both he and Doug Meeter helped me on numerous occasions to learn the Schering way of doing things.
Business was business but other times there was always a kind greeting, a little joke or kind word, a smile and a twinkle in his eye.
I was devastated to learn of his passing when we were joking only several days before.
Tom, we'll mis you.

It's never easy for those left behind but when you lose someone we all feel the pain. May it provide you comfort to know that many people share your sorrow and are here for you in your time of need. May the many GREAT memories of Tom provide you with strength during this difficult time. So try not to mourn the absence of Tom but celebrate how he positively influenced the many life's he came in contact with. Thoughts of you fill my mind and heart.

I knew Tom for over 15 years working on many projects, visiting with him at meetings, and most recently working with him at the Summit site. Tom always found time for me to chat with the past two years being the busiest. I will remember our talks outside in the rain while he was smoking between meetings because that seemed to be the only time we could catch each other. For a few months there, it seemed that when I was coming in for meetings with his colleagues, I could always count on Tom being at the end of a wing, outside, for me to chat on the way in or out. Timing they say.
His openess and mentorship will be sorely missed and soon hard to replace.

Tom hired me as a junior engineer in 1995. He was my first boss and he provided me the direction and leadership for me to continue in engineering. I worked directly for Tom for two years and I learned more than I could ever imagine. He gave me enough independence to learn personally and professionally but was always there to prevent me from getting in trouble. After two years, I left Schering and went to another company. Tom thought I was making a mistake but supported me anyway like he always did. When it didn't turn out as I expected, the first thing my mom told me to do was call Tom. I was really embarrassed but I did it anyway. Tom told me to get down to the office right away because he wanted to have some words with me. Instead of telling me I told you so, he hugged and comforted me and told me that everything was going to be alright. He told me to come back to Schering where he would help me get back on my feet.
I ended up going to PS&S and starting a new career. However, Tom always kept tabs on my. He hired me back as a consultant for multiple projects. I think it was his way to keep tabs on me.
It seemed that when times were good I was fine. When times were tough, I would find myself in Tom's office where he would console and comfort me and tell me how great I was.
By 2005, my projects at Schering were slowing down. I felt responsible for alot of the problems that I had on projects there and felt like I had to make everything right. Tom told me to look at it as a learning experience and use that experience to shine somewhere else. I didn't understand what he was talking about until this week. I had gotten some great compliments on one of my recent projects and immediately I thought about my conversation with Tom. He was right as he always was and new what my future entailed. I said to myself I have to call Tom and tell him about this but I'll wait until the project is completed. I wish I never waited. But by lighting this candle, I feel like I am telling him my story.
Tom was my first boss, my mentor, a father figure and most of all my friend. I will miss him greatly.

I have not been in touch with Tom in many years. In high school, we were both "TC", not only TC but "TJC". I can remember walking together between classes and talking. I was always impressed with his kind ways and gentle demeanor. He was smart, confident and easy to talk with. By reading the posted comments, I can say that he lived his life that way. To his family, I am sorry for your loss. I know that you will miss him greatly. He will wait for you and welcome you with the Lord when it is time. God bless you.
Respectfully,
Thomas J Clemens

Although I have only known Tom for a relativley short time, I will remember him as someone who is first and foremost a 'people person'. A devoted Husband, his insight, whit and enthusiasm were inspiring. His ability to lead and communicate were second to none.
He will be sorely missed by his S-P family. Our thoughts are with Jean and his wider family. They can take heart in the knowledge that Tom was much respected and much loved by his work colleagues.
We are sorry we can't attend the funeral due to distances involved, but we will light a candle for him.
Love Garith, Lisda, Milly & Georgia Connor.
