Obituary of Walter J. Alpaugh
Walter J. Alpaugh, Jr., age 90 of Whitehouse, NJ, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at the Hunterdon Care Center in Raritan Twp., NJ.
Born in Bedminster, NJ, he was the son of the late Walter and Rita Alpaugh. Walter lived most of his life in Whitehouse.
Walter served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was a machine operator, for Durling Farms where he worked for over 40 years before retiring in 1980.
Walt was a charter member of the Whitehouse Rescue Squad where he had served as 1st Captain and was a charter member of the American Legion Post 284 of Whitehouse.
He was also a life member of the East Whitehouse Fire Department which he joined in 1940. He served as chief from 1967 to 1968 and President from 1971 to 1972.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Frances Alpaugh, his three sons, Walter E. Alpaugh of Whitehouse, Henry Alpaugh of Cranford and Rodger Alpaugh of Dayton, NJ. He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 14 at 10:00 AM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse. Burial will be in Rural Hill Cemetery, Whitehouse.
Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, January 13, from 2-5 PM at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the East Whitehouse Fire Company, PO Box 151, Whitehouse, NJ 08888
