As Bill's regular bridge partner for many years, I can tell you that he had a passion for mental challenges. He enjoyed sitting at the bridge table, closely listening to the bidding as well as observing the cards being played by his opponents and then using this information to carefully synthesize his own playing strategy.
But the scope of Bill's thinking went far beyond abstract concepts and ideas. Bill was truly interested in the needs and welfare of the people around him. Whether it be the elderly lady who needed some assistance getting down the stairs at the bridge club or the younger man who needed some comforting words and perhaps some helpful advice following a job loss, Bill was always there for them. Even when facing his own personal challenges, Bill thoughts were always centered on those around him.
I extend my deepest sympathy to the Schmolze family. We will all truly miss Bill.

Jason and Kelli:
Cindy and I want you and your family to know that we are here for you always. We know a little about the pain which you are going through right now, though all loss is different, and affects people in different ways. We know you loved him and miss him deeply. He will always be with you, watching you and your children and looking over your mother, his wife.
You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Bill was a gift from God. He was a ray of sunshine when life was very stressful and dark for our family. Once we met Bill we felt like everything will be ok soon. Bill was very personable, compassionate, and kind. He helped us so much to lift our spirits during the sale of our home which was completed on Sept. 21, 2007 and was hoping to break bread with him during present and happier times here in Connecticut. Bill and I (Therese) both grew up in the Bronx and went to the same school at different times but our conversations were interesting talking about the old neighborhood. It is a small world. We are very thankful to have met although briefly such a kind and compassionate child of God. Thank you God for Bill and all the blessings in the world to his spirit, memory, and to Janet and Family.
