Al Matzer, "Mr.Matzer" to me, was the best art teacher I ever had. He taught me how to paint in oils after he saw me struggling with the medium, and arranged for me to be in his class because he saw that I had talent. He also recommended to my mother that I go to art school after high school. I attribute a lot of my success as an artist to Mr. Matzer. He was always patient and kind, a wonderful teacher, and he was a great artist who knew about all kinds of art, including realism, impressionism, commercial art and fashion illustration. I'm glad I was able to go back to Randolph High School several years after I graduated to visit with Mr. Matzer after I had been to art school and college, and tell him in person that he was the best art teacher I ever had. His reply was a humorous "Now you're talking!" I wish I could find some photos of his artwork online, or better yet, see some of his work in person. I will always be grateful to him for helping me to become an artist.

I will always remember Uncle Albert as someone who was a happy soul...always had a smile on his face and was excited to show you something new he had painted. I loved hearing stories from my Mom (his sister Peggy) about the things they had done in their younger days. He was a sweet man and a gentle soul.

Mr. Matzer was my art teacher from 1969-1972. I often tell people how lucky I was to have a true master to learn from. He was always willing to sign a "pass to the art room" for me,too. My condolences to all of you at this time.
