Obituary of Albert William Matzer

Albert William Matzer, age 94 of Bridgewater, NJ, died Saturday, January 22, 2011 at his home. Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he was the son of the late Anthony and Angela Matzer. Al lived in North Plainfield for 32 years before moving to Bridgewater 18 years ago. He was an art teacher at Randolph High school for 26 years until his retirement in 1982. Al was a former communicant of St Luke's Church in North Plainfield and a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church in Bridgewater. He served in the United States Marine Corps, serving in both World War II and the Korean War and was a member of the Central Jersey Leathernecks. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Elsa Matzer, his son, Marc of Bridgewater and his daughter, Marie Skelton and her husband, Brian of Pittstown. Al is also survived by his 4 grandsons, Joseph, Bryan, Michael and Nicholas Skelton and his brother, Ralph Matzer of San Francisco, CA. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 10:00 AM at St. Bernard's Cemetery in the Mausoleum Chapel, Bridgewater. The mass will not be held in the Church. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Kearns Funeral Home, 103 Old Highway 28, Whitehouse.
