Obituary of Lorraine Smalley
Lorraine Smalley, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, of Whitehouse, NJ, died peacefully at home on Thursday, February 9, 2017.
Born in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late Warren and Florence Mischler.
Lorraine grew up in Berkeley Heights and lived in North Plainfield before moving to Whitehouse forty-two years ago.
She was an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Gladstone and participated as a leader and volunteer in many civic and community activities throughout her life. Some of her favorite times were spent in Eastport, Maine, where Lorraine and her husband, Chet, spent summers. She has been retired for many years from Chubb Insurance Company where she was employed as a Systems Analyst/Programmer.
Among Lorraine’s many hobbies were her much-loved family pets, bird watching, and knitting, while her favorite moments were those spent with family. Lorraine will long be remembered for her warm, contagious smile and her caring and generous heart.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Chester Smalley, Jr.; her son, Chet III and his wife, Kris, of Pittstown; her daughter, Lisa Padulo, of Lisbon Falls, Maine; and her two grandsons, Stefan Padulo of Portsmouth, NH, and Colby Padulo of Portland, Maine.
A memorial service will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 182 Main Street, Gladstone, NJ, on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 10:00a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children and/or your local animal shelter.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Kearns Funeral Home in Whitehouse, NJ.
